Historia
The history of Kostergården is closely intertwined with life on Sydkoster – an island that has always lived close to the sea, the seasons and the simple joys of life.
Sydkoster is one of the outermost islands along the Swedish west coast – car-free, wind-swept and of a beauty that takes your breath away. This is where Kostergården has its roots, in a time when life on the island revolved around the sea: fishing, ships and the community along the pier in Kyrkosund.
The main building was erected in the early 1900s and has since housed generations of visitors. From the early years as an inn for sailors and summer guests, to the hotel and restaurant that Kostergården is today – the place has always had a natural pull on those seeking the sea and tranquillity.
Tidigt 1900-tal
The building is erected in Kyrkosund. Sydkoster is an active fishing community with close ties to Strömstad and the mainland.
Mitten av 1900-talet
Tourism takes shape along the west coast. Kostergården establishes itself as a well-known summer accommodation for families and visitors from the south.
1980–2000-talet
The facilities are gradually expanded and modernised. The family-run character is preserved through generational changes.
I dag
Kostergården operates as a hotel and restaurant open year-round. Tavernan på Syd opens, placing Italian cuisine in a Nordic coastal setting.
What permeates the history of Kostergården is not great upheavals but continuity – a care for the place, the guests and the unique nature that surrounds us. Kosterhavet National Park, established in 2009, confirmed what those who have lived and worked here have always known: that this is one of Scandinavia's most valuable and beautiful seascapes.
We are proud to be part of that story.
